AviClear
AviClear is a laser treatment designed to target the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin — one of the key contributors to acne development.
Excess oil production can combine with dead skin cells, bacteria, and inflammation to form breakouts. AviClear works by delivering laser energy at a wavelength that selectively targets and suppresses overactive oil glands, helping to reduce the environment in which acne forms.
Unlike many traditional acne treatments that work on the surface of the skin or systemically through medication, AviClear works directly within the skin using a device-based approach.

Our Approach to Acne Treatment
While we were the first to bring AviClear to Adelaide, South Australia, our focus remains on responsible, individualised care. No single treatment is right for everyone.
AviClear is one of the tools we use to help manage acne at its source. When combined with the right supportive treatments and guidance, it can form part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at improving skin clarity and long-term skin health.
Common questions
How many sessions will I need?
Most AviClear treatment plans involve three sessions, typically spaced about four weeks apart. This staged approach allows the skin to respond gradually as oil gland activity is regulated.
Some patients may benefit from additional supportive treatments or maintenance depending on the severity of their acne, skin type, and overall treatment goals. Your clinician will tailor a plan specific to your skin.
Do I need a referral?
If you would like to see our dermatologist, a GP referral is required.
However, consultations for AviClear can also be conducted with Dr Ng, who does not require a referral. During this consultation, we assess your skin, medical history, and suitability for treatment, and discuss whether AviClear should form part of your broader acne management plan.
Is the treatment painful?
Most patients describe AviClear as tolerable, with a snapping or heated sensation as the laser pulses are delivered. The device includes a cooling mechanism to improve comfort throughout the session.
Sensitivity can vary depending on the area being treated and the level of inflammation in the skin at the time. Your clinician will guide you through the process and adjust where needed to keep you as comfortable as possible.
When will I see results?
AviClear works by gradually regulating oil gland activity, so improvements develop progressively over time, rather than immediately after treatment.
Some patients begin to notice changes during the treatment series, but more significant improvement is typically seen in the months following the final session as the skin’s inflammatory cycle settles.
Because acne is influenced by multiple internal and external factors, results vary between individuals. AviClear is often most effective when used as part of a combination treatment approach tailored to your skin.
Who Is AviClear Suited For?
AviClear may be considered for individuals who experience:
- Mild, moderate, or severe acne
- Persistent breakouts that have not responded to other treatments
- Oily or congestion-prone skin
- Acne on the face, chest, or back
- A preference for a non-oral, device-based treatment option
It can be an option for patients who are unable to tolerate certain medications or who are seeking alternatives under clinical guidance.
A consultation is essential to determine suitability, as acne is a multifactorial condition. Hormones, inflammation, bacteria, skin barrier health, and lifestyle factors all play a role. For this reason, AviClear is often recommended as part of a broader treatment plan that may include skincare, in-clinic therapies, and internal health considerations.
