Common questions
Why would I see a Dermatologist instead of a nurse for a skin consultation?
Dermatology is for patients with medical skin conditions such as severe barrier impairment, acne, rosacea, and pigmentation. Consultations with our nurses are aimed at those seeking to regenerate their skin health and address concerns like acne, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, or premature ageing.
How long does a dermatologist study for?
It takes on average 13-15 years of medical training to become a dermatologist. To become a dermatologist, one must complete medical school and at least two years of experience in public hospitals, including internal medicine, emergency medicine, paediatrics, and surgery, before starting competitive dermatology training. The four-year Australian dermatology program involves rotations through major hospitals and busy clinics, with strict assessments including a first-year exam, ongoing evaluations, and a comprehensive six-day final exam.
Do I need a referral?
Yes, seeing our dermatologist does require a referral. You can obtain a referral through your GP or other registered health provider.
I have numerous skin issues I want to discuss. What should I do?
When scheduling your appointment, please let our patient liason team know that you have more than one issue to discuss with the doctor. We can then book the appropriate time required to assist you.
